If you're not already watching Community, then you're missing out on the best comedy currently on television. The many misadventures of Jeff, Britta, Troy, Abed, Annie, Shirley, and Pierce - along with Dean Pelton and Senor Chang - make for comedy gold episode after episode. But I'm not here to talk about them. This list is a shout out to the secondary characters on Community, who through two seasons have become key members of the show themselves. WARNING: If you do not watch Community, you will likely not be interested in this post. May I interest you in flying turtles instead?
7. Gareth
Gareth was one of the first secondary characters shown on Community, and has never really had more than one or two lines in an episode. He ended up running for class president because he thought he had gotten into a line to get ice cream, and doesn't follow orders from girls because they don't talk to him. Maybe one day we'll get an episode that lets us really get to know Gareth, but alas, that day has not yet come.
Best Episode - Modern Warfare
6. Vicki
Vicki, a throwaway character introduced when she ran for school president, didn't really do much before the final two episodes of the season, but quickly became one of my favorite characters during that time. Along with Gareth, she was one of the "dancers" at Fort Hawthorne that worked for Twinkies, and continued dancing long after the Fort had been destroyed, stating that "she didn't know any other way of life". Classic.
Best Episode - A Fistful of Paintballs
5. Starburns
Probably the most well-known secondary character on Community, Starburns is the former fry cook and current drug dealer at Greendale. His face when Dean Pelton revealed he would be on the cover of Dean Magazine was priceless, and you gotta give props to anybody that takes the time to shave his facial hair into shapes.
Best Episode - Applied Anthropology and Culinary Arts
4. Prof. Garity
The drama teacher at Greendale. Prof. Garity, AKA Prof. Professorson, helped the Dean try to catch Jeff using a fake course to get credits. The main advice he can give after the whole affair? "Never say you will pay someone in acting"
Best Episode - Conspiracy Theories and Interior Design
3. The Bully that Fights Jeff
While he's only appeared in two episodes (and only in about twenty seconds of one of those episodes), the bully makes for one of the funniest characters at Greendale. Perpetually angry, the Bully gets a lot of respect from me for understanding the fun that can be had getting in to fights in front of the Applebee's.
Best Episode - Comparative Religion
2. Prof Duncan
Prof. Duncan, the psychology and anthropology professor at Greendale, is well known for both his love of the drink and his hate for Senor Chang. He had a much larger presence in the first season, but has not been as common a sight in the second season, which is a shame considering how funny he can be. From drunk rapping to teaching anthropology by showing random Youtube videos, he's exactly the kind of professor Greendale needs.
Best Episode - Advanced Criminal Law
1. Magnitude, short for Magnetic Attitude
POP POP! Need I say more?
Side Note - The guy who plays Magnitude was in the Harry Potter movies. Swag.
Side Note 2 - His last name is also Youngblood. Double Swag.
Side Note 3 - He was also on Project Runway. Not as cool, but still, this guy is a fucking talent.
Best Episode - Intro to Political Science (though he kills every episode he's in)
