Karl's Top 7 - Sports teams I most want to see win a championship

I haven't really covered sports on this blog much (outside of the UFC), so I felt it was time to do a solid post on the subject. I'm not big on either the NFL or NBA, so my list will only include NHL and MLB teams. The Top 7 teams that I want to win a championship the most, and my reasoning for the placement.

Tie 7. Cincinnati Reds/Colorado Rockies
I'm about equal on my desire to see these two teams win: I admit that I'm not anywhere near as big a baseball fan as I am a hockey fan, but these are two teams that I've always liked. I rooted for the Rockies when they played the Red Sox in the World Series, party because fuck the Red Sox, but also cause I liked how they were at the top without blowing the bank. Also, the Reds have Joey Votto (Canadian!) so I gotta give them some love.

6. New York Rangers
They're an Original Six team, and anytime one of those teams wins the Cup its pretty exciting. The Rangers, despite being in the league since the beginning, they have only won four championships, so they deserve to win another one. After years of mediocre to awful seasons, the Rangers are starting to do a little better. They'll need more improvement to win a championship, but they are on the right path.

5. Washington Capitals
Similarly to the next team on the list, the Capitals have never won the Stanley Cup. The Capitals have been one of the best regular season teams over the last three seasons, but they have faltered in the playoffs. Seeing them get over the hump and win a championship would be pretty cool. Also, Alexander Ovechkin is my favorite player in the NHL today (all time favorite being Joe Sakic).

4. Vancouver Canucks
They might play in the same division as my beloved Avs, but I've always liked the Canucks. There's two main reasons I'd like to see the Canucks win - they're Canadian, and they've never won the cup in their 40 year history. That's one long drought (Not quite as long as the Leafs though). They're doing very well this season, so that drought could be coming to an end very soon.

3. Toronto Blue Jays
Ah, the Jays. Forever doomed to be in the same division as the Yankees and Red Sox, and now the decent Rays, the Jays hopes of making the playoffs are pretty slim every year. Now, I will go on record on saying that the MLB should have more teams in the playoffs (it would only serve to provide more revenue for teams and the league, and four per conference is kinda ridiculous) and if they ever do, then maybe we will get to see the Jays play in October. Unlike the Leafs, the Jays aren't that bad of a team, yet because of MLB's retarded playoff format, they remain on the outside. One day we will win again. One day.

2. Toronto Maple Leafs
There's one major reason I want Toronto to win: the after party would be ridiculous. Toronto's the home town team too, so that earns it bonus points, but they are not my favorite team. Too many years of being mediocre to bad has soured my opinion. That being said, the party that would result from them winning a playoff round, let alone the cup, would be awesome. Thus, I have to root for them.

1. Colorado Avalanche
My favorite team in all of sports, the Avs are the team I most want to see win. This season hasn't been great (at least we'll get another top draft pick!) but I genuinely believe at the start of each year that the Avs will go all the way. Do they have a serious shot next year? Probably not, but I can always hope.
